And when the critic is found murdered—in her mom’s B&B—she and her mom find themselves suspects. The only leads she has are a scrap of newspaper and a cryptic poem. Rose decides to go for an early morning run around Lakeside Park. As she rounds a turn, a flock of birds fly up. She looks over. A glint of metal catches her eye and she leaves the path to investigate. Getting closer, she sees the shimmer is from a watch. Attached to the body of a woman. There’s a bag from Prairie Delights, her best friend and roommate Paige Barrington’s bakery, and bits of the scone are on the ground.

The coroner finds a cooking skewer in the woman’s throat, and another in the remaining scone. The bakery is closed pending an investigation. Paige is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter.

The police think it’s an open and shut case of negligence, but Mac digs deeper. The victim, a personal trainer, isn’t what she seems. And her studio isn’t just for fitness. As Rose goes undercover to discover the truth, she’ll need all of her friends’ help to solve the mystery before she becomes exercised to death. Literally.
